COLLEGE FOOTBALL SPOTLIGHT / THE BOWL GAMES : HE KNOWS HIS X’S AND O’S

Sitting quietly in a small corner of Fiesta Bowl press box after the game was this unusual sight: Jim Hansen, Colorado’s 6-foot-6 offensive tackle, hunched over lined paper writing with a ball-point pen.

Hansen, recently awarded a Rhodes scholarship, was finishing a story for the Boulder Daily Camera, his teammates having already returned to their hotel.

Hansen graduated in May with a degree in aerospace engineering and carried a 3.94 grade-point average as an undergraduate. He’s already taking graduate courses in fluid dynamics and has a 4.0.
