ROSSMOOR : District Board Fails to Elect President

Share

Margrit Kendrick will remain acting board president of the Rossmoor Community Services District after the Board of Directors failed this week to elect a new president.

With Director John Hunt absent, the board deadlocked in the selection, with Kendrick and another nominee, Director Joyce Bloom, receiving two votes each.

Kendrick received votes from herself and Director Linda Goodrich, while Bloom received votes from herself and Director Jim Alexander.

Alexander, Goodrich and Hunt were elected to the board Nov. 3.

General Manager Bill Sheldon, who presided over the election, said another one will be held when the board meets on Feb. 3. Hunt, who has been hospitalized with a bad back, is expected to attend that meeting.

The board also deadlocked on a proposal to stop the Sheriff’s Department from issuing parking tickets to vehicles parked on the streets during street sweeping days.

Bloom and Alexander voted to stop the ticketing. They said the Community Services District, which is paying for the enforcement, is, in reality, paying the Sheriff’s Department to harass Rossmoor residents because the district does not share in the money from the tickets.

However, Kendrick and Goodrich voted to continue the issuance of parking tickets as a deterrence to street parking and ensuring that streets are swept.

The full board is expected to consider the matter at a future meeting.
