SHERMAN OAKS : $300,000 in Jewelry Taken by Robbers

Five robbers were still at large after they held up a jewelry store and fled with almost $300,000 in diamond earrings, rings and necklaces, Los Angeles police said Friday.

The masked men ran into Dejaun Jewelers in the Sherman Oaks Fashion Square about 8:20 p.m. Thursday, sales manager Brian Leibl said. The men held store employees, four customers and the store president at gunpoint while they forced a salesperson to open several display cases.

Leibl said the robbers took most of the store’s engagement rings and other jewelry with diamonds.

“They knew exactly what they were looking for,” Leibl said. “They probably cased us before they came in.”

The shop had never before been robbed in the three years it has been open, Leibl said. But robbers have hit other jewelry stores in the mall during that time.
