SHERMAN OAKS : Man Wounded in Robbery Attempt

Share

A retired Beverly Hills policeman shot and wounded a man who was trying to rob the ex-officer’s wife, authorities said Friday.

Marque Todd Fisher, 27, of Los Angeles was taken to Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills for treatment of two wounds to his upper body and leg, Los Angeles police said. He remains in stable condition.

Van Nuys Division police would not release the names of the former officer or his wife despite repeated requests, although authorities routinely release the identities of adult crime victims in most cases.

Detective Mel Arnold said police feared that the former officer could be targeted for retaliation by people involved in crimes he had investigated before retiring from the Beverly Hills Police Department in 1977.

The former policeman shot Fisher when he allegedly grabbed the ex-officer’s wife and held a gun to her about 9:30 p.m. Thursday in front of a house in the 4400 block of Matilija Avenue, Arnold said.

The former officer and his wife had driven to the home to pick up her purse--which had been stolen at a market earlier in the day--from a resident who had found it, Arnold said. When the woman was getting out of the car to enter the house, Fisher allegedly grabbed her.

The former officer, who was licensed to carry his service revolver, then shot Fisher, police said. Police arrested Fisher after he collapsed on the corner of Matilija Avenue and Moorpark Street.

The attempted robbery was not related to the purse theft, Arnold said. Police believe Fisher may have been trying to steal the couple’s car.

Fisher was charged with attempted robbery and bail was set at $40,000.
