A gunman shot an 18-year-old Huntington Beach man in a Fountain Valley parking lot after an argument between the two over a driving incident, authorities said Thursday.

The victim, Mark C. Young, and Nathan Negrette, 19, both of Huntington Beach, were traveling north on Bushard Street at about 8:45 p.m. Wednesday when the assailant made a wide right turn onto Bushard, causing the victims to swerve, said Fountain Valley Police Sgt. Lee Pepka.

A shouting match ensued, and both cars pulled into the parking lot of Oz Entertainment, a video arcade, at 9520 Warner Ave., he said.

The man pulled out a handgun and fired into the victim’s vehicle, striking Young in the head, Pepka said. The gunman fled.

Negrette drove Young to FHP Hospital in Fountain Valley. Young was transferred to Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach later that night. Pepka said Young was in stable condition, although the hospital said it had no information on him.

The gunman is described as an Asian, in his late teens, with glasses, a blue baseball cap and denim jacket. He was driving an off-white, four-door Cadillac or an Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera, Pepka said.
