A body discovered this week west of Santa Clarita was identified as a 56-year-old Newhall man who was allegedly slain so that his 20-year-old roommate could move his girlfriend into the apartment he shared with the older man, Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies said.

Deputy Rich Erickson said the county coroner’s office confirmed that the beaten and strangled body found Monday at Pico Canyon was David Wallace.

Gabriel J. Saraceno; Paul Green, 20, and a 17-year-old girl, all of Santa Clarita, were arrested this week in connection with Wallace’s slaying, which is believed to have taken place Jan. 1, Erickson said.

Saraceno and Green pleaded not guilty to murder charges during an arraignment Thursday in Newhall Municipal Court, Erickson said. The girl, also being held on suspicion of murder, has not been arraigned.

Saraceno reported Wallace missing Jan. 2, Erickson said. An informant later told detectives that Wallace had been slain and identified Saraceno, Green and the girl as suspects.
