BOYS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Etter’s Tip-In at Buzzer Lifts Western Over Savanna, 33-31

Jason Etter tipped in a missed shot by Frank Floyd at the buzzer to give Western a 33-31 victory over Savanna in an Orange League boys’ basketball game Friday night at Savanna.

Floyd finished with 12 points. Western improved to 12-4, 2-0 in league play. Savanna is 6-12, 1-1.

In other Orange League games:

Magnolia 60, Anaheim 40--Brandon Hearvey scored 16 points and Aaron Williams 14 for host Magnolia (10-5, 2-0). Boun Malapha had 17 points for Anaheim (0-2 in league).

Valencia 71, Brea-Olinda 54--Bill Eubanks had 33 points and 12 rebounds to lead host Valencia (8-6, 1-1), which made 33 of 45 free throws. Wayne Spurlock had 17 points for Brea-Olinda (6-12, 0-2).

In the South Coast League:

Capistrano Valley 72, El Toro 41--Corey Kost had 21 points to lead Capistrano Valley (12-7, 3-0) past El Toro (4-12, 0-3). Jim Lewis had 14 points for El Toro.

Mater Dei 84, Dana Hills 40--Guards Miles Simon, with 19 points, and Dave Drekeford, with 15, led host Mater Dei (19-1, 3-0) against Dana Hills. Terence Wilborn had 10 rebounds. Dana Hills dropped to 9-8, 2-1.

Mission Viejo 59, San Clemente 46--Jeff Reindl had 20 points and Doug Carr had 15 points to lead Mission Viejo (7-10, 1-2) past host San Clemente (4-12, 0-3). Ken Suckiel led San Clemente with 16 points.

In Academy League boys’ basketball:

Liberty Christian 96, St. Michael’s 43--Guard Toby Curto scored 29 points against visiting St. Michael’s. Teammate Jason Trippet had two three-pointers with a total of 11 points for Liberty Christian (9-4, 1-1). Chuck Sesma had 25 points for St. Michael’s (0-2).

In the Olympic League:

Capistrano Valley Christian 64, Cerritos Valley Christian 47--Troy Rodarmel scored 29 points to lead Capistrano Valley Christian (13-2, 3-1).

Orange Lutheran 76, Ontario Christian 55--Chad Reed had 24 points, and Tony Risberg added 17 to lead Orange Lutheran (6-7, 1-2) past host Ontario Christian (3-8, 0-3).

Whittier Christian 75, Calvary Chapel 44--Tyler Ream had 19 points and Jeff Rutter added 15 for Whittier Christian (8-7, 3-1). Sabe Younger and Chase Lubbock each had 13 points for Calvary Chapel (6-10, 1-2).

In a nonleague game:

Brethren Christian 43, Palos Verdes Chadwick 36--Forward Scott Thomas led Brethren Christian with 14 points. Brethren Christian is 9-7, 3-0.
