HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Hart Erases 18-Point Deficit to Defeat Canyon

Hart High overcame an 18-point halftime deficit Thursday to beat host Canyon, 58-55, in a Foothill League boys’ basketball game.

Canyon led, 37-19, at halftime, but Hart (11-5, 4-0 in league play) outscored the Cowboys, 17-4, in the third quarter.

David Sanders (17 points) and Cody Patterson (14) combined for 23 points in the second half.

Three players scored in double figures for Canyon: Charles Woodard and Greg Minor each scored 13, and James Manning added 10.

In another boys’ game:

St. Bernard 57, Crespi 56--The Celts led until Darren Mitchell sank a short jump shot with two seconds left in a Mission League game.

GIRLS

Alemany 47, Chaminade 34--Alemany took advantage of 12 turnovers by visiting Chaminade to surge to a 12-2 lead at the end of the first quarter in the Mission League game.

Newbury Park 57, Agoura 29--The Panthers (14-5, 6-2) won their fourth in a row and stayed in third place in the Marmonte League, thanks to Julie Wastell’s 16 points and nine assists.

Hart 62, Canyon 27--The Indians (13-5, 4-0) romped to their fifth consecutive victory by outrebounding the Cowboys, 51-22, and holding them under 10 points in each quarter.

Buena 63, Rio Mesa 46--Freshman guard Eboni Conley scored a game-high 19 points to lead the Bulldogs (11-2, 7-0).

Burroughs 51, Burbank 50--A furious comeback by the Bulldogs (9-6, 2-2) fell short in the Foothill League game.

Michele Rumfola (11 points) and Jocelyn Ferialdi (13) had 13 of Burbank’s points in a 19-4 fourth quarter.
