Former Laguna Hills Swimmer Dies in Las Vegas Explosion
Nevada Las Vegas swimmer Brian Fischer, a former standout at Laguna Hills High School, died in an explosion at his off-campus apartment Thursday night, the UNLV sports information department announced Friday.
He was 22.
Las Vegas police are investigating the explosion, which occurred at 8:30 p.m. Fischer was the only person injured in the incident.
Fischer graduated from Laguna Hills, where he was one of the top Southern Section swimmers. As a senior, he finished second in the 200- and 500-yard freestyles, setting All-American times in both events.
Fischer went to Syracuse, but transferred to UNLV last year. He was majoring in hotel management.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
