Jackson on Boycott
Jesse Jackson calls for a baseball boycott and for Bill Clinton to refuse to throw out the first ball of the season if the teams do not have affirmative action plans in place by opening day (Jan. 17).
Wouldn’t it be more effective and less divisive to the public body to have the players collectively negotiate that issue with team management and with the networks?
It would seem to some degree to be an individual team and network situation. The players, and particularly the minority players, should have the best sense of what is right and just for their teams and for aspiring coaches, managers and announcers.
I voted for Jackson in 1988 and trust that he is keeping in balance his own political ambitions and the causes he seeks to effect.
