Kim Campbell, who is one of Orange County’s top girls’ soccer players for sixth-ranked Canyon High, was injured Monday in a Century League game against Orange and was scheduled to undergo an MRI exam on her left knee Wednesday.

Campbell, a senior and an All-Southern Section center-forward who leads Canyon’s offense with 30 goals this season, said her physician told her she might have torn cartilage.

Campbell, who holds the school record of 48 goals set last season, suffered a ligament tear in her right knee during the second game of her sophomore year and missed the remainder of the season.

Canyon Coach John Williams said he hopes Campbell can return this season.

“She’s had a preliminary diagnosis and we will know toward the end of the week,” Williams said. “We’re still hoping she’ll come back. (But if she can’t), we have to suck it up and go on. We can’t change anything in the past.”
