Area Girls to Throw Shot in Sunkist Meet

Three of the Southern Section’s top female shotputters will compete in the Sunkist invitational indoor track and field meet at the Sports Arena on Feb. 20.

Nada Kawar of Crescenta Valley High, Crystal Brownlee of Westlake and Dolores Tuimoloau of Channel Islands are entered in a field of nine.

Kawar, who has a personal best of 45 feet 9 1/2 inches, won the Southern Section 4-A Division title last season and finished third in the state championships.

Brownlee (personal best of 45-4) is the two-time defending Southern Section 3-A Division champion and placed sixth in the state last year. Tuimoloau finished second to Brownlee in last year’s 3-A meet with a personal best of 42-0.

Chatsworth High’s baseball alumni game will be held Feb. 28 at 11 a.m. at the school diamond.

Expected to play for the alumni are minor-league standouts Joel Wolfe (Oakland A’s), Derek Wallace (Chicago Cubs) and Rich Aude (Pittsburgh Pirates). Former Chatsworth Coach Bob Lofrano, now coach at Pierce College, will coach the alumni.

Orthopedic surgeons from the Bone & Joint Surgeons Medical Group and Valley Physical Therapy are offering a free clinic the first Wednesday of each month.

Doctors and therapists will evaluate injuries incurred during recreational activities and offer recommendations regarding treatment.

The clinic runs from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Los Angeles Sports Medicine Center at 10640 Riverside Drive in North Hollywood. Only recent injuries to the extremities will be evaluated.
