PREP ROUNDUP : Santa Ana Stays Unbeaten in Sunset League Wrestling

Santa Ana completed an unbeaten Sunset League wrestling season by capturing the team tournament championship at Huntington Beach High School Thursday night.
The Saints, who went 6-0 in league dual meets, had five individual winners and scored 150 points, ahead of second-place Edison’s 115. Ocean View finished third with 113 points.
Roger Santiago (103 pounds), Ron Orellana (112), Miguel Valencia (119), Alfaonzo Perez (145) and Alonzo Ruiz (171) earned individual titles for Santa Ana. The Saints and Westminster, which finished second in the dual meet season, advance to the Southern Section 4-A team championships next week.
The top three finishers in each weight class advance to the 4-A individuals next week.
In the Olympic League boys’ basketball:
Capistrano Valley Christian 78, Ontario Christian 55--Troy Rodarmel had 24 and Marguis Patterson had 19 points and 10 steals for host Capistrano Valley Christian (19-4, 9-3).
Cerritos Valley Christian 72, Orange Lutheran 71--Orange Lutheran (11-11, 6-6) finished in fourth place and qualifies for the Southern Section playoffs despite the loss. Tom Howard led Orange Lutheran with 16 points.
In the Academy League:
Liberty Christian 75, California Lutheran 56--Toby Curto scored 24 points and Mike Bahnsen had 11 points and 10 rebounds for Liberty Christian (16-5, 7-1), which clinched at least a share of the league title. Matt Krug led California Lutheran (6-8, 4-4) with 21 points.
In the Express League:
Heritage Christian 103, Huntington Beach Claremont 59--Forward Tom Houser had 36 points for visiting Heritage Christian (17-1, 13-0). Ryan Drabek, with 15 points and Scott Smith, with 13 points, also contributed. Only three players from Claremont (4-12, 2-11) scored, including Gavin Watson with 29 points.
In a nonleague game:
Whittier Christian 61, Fontana A.B. Miller 49--Jeff Rutter’s two three-pointers gave him 74 for the season, breaking his own Whittier Christian record of 72 set last year. Rutter finished with 18 points to lead visiting Whittier Christian in a game that was stopped with 49 seconds remaining to play after a a flagrant foul was called and Miller players were assessed six technical fouls.
In the field hockey tournament of champions:
Santiago 1, Bonita 0--Anna Renteria scored in the second half for host Santiago, which moves into Saturday’s title game against Colton at 11:30 a.m. at Edison High School. Edison plays Bonita at 10 a.m. in the third-place game.
