HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Thousand Oaks Stretches Win Streak to 20

The Thousand Oaks High boys’ basketball team completed its first unbeaten Marmonte League season and posted its 20th win in a row by defeating Channel Islands, 74-56, Friday night at Thousand Oaks. Guard Peter Lauer scored 21 points to lead the Lancers (23-1, 14-0 in league play). Jason Hartman had 17 points and 13 rebounds and Paul Foster added 15 points.

In other boys’ games:

Hueneme 63, Santa Barbara 62 (OT)--Von Gilmore made an inside basket with 19 seconds to play in overtime to lift visiting Hueneme (15-8, 10-4) to a second-place tie with Santa Barbara (18-8, 10-4) in the Channel League. It is the Vikings’ best league finish since 1982. Wendell Nunnery had 28 points and 11 rebounds for Hueneme. David Andrade had 16 points and 12 rebounds.

Notre Dame 77, Loyola 68--Craig Johnson led the host Knights (20-6, 11-3) with 24 points and Monte Marcaccini had 18 points and 11 rebounds in a Mission League game. Eddie Miller added 13 points and 10 rebounds.

North Hollywood 86, Grant 42--North Hollywood (22-1, 10-0) was led by Damon Ollie (19 points and 12 rebounds), Romain Coleman (14 points, 12 rebounds), F.J. Johnson (16 points) and Arthur Lee (16 points).

San Fernando 75, Reseda 72--Reseda (5-11, 3-5) rallied from a seven-point halftime deficit to tie the score after three periods but couldn’t stop San Fernando from clinching the North Valley League title.

Barry McWright (22 points), Javier Ramos (21) and J.R. Montgomery (17) led San Fernando (6-2 in league play). Trenton Cross scored 25 for Reseda.

Taft 52, Cleveland 44--The host Toreadors (9-9, 3-5) pulled off a North Valley League upset, reversing Cleveland’s 26-point victory 10 days ago, behind Johnny Williams’ 19 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks.

Chatsworth 63, Kennedy 46--Philbert Hernandez scored 18 points and added eight assists to lead host Chatsworth (14-8, 8-0) in a West Valley League game.

Trenell Floyd had 15 points and 12 rebounds, and Marcel Wilson scored 14 points for Chatsworth. Joe Wyatt scored 27 points for Kennedy (8-14, 2-6).

El Camino Real 68, Granada Hills 61--Charles Adams scored 18 points and had 13 rebounds, and Sam Sarpong scored 11 points and had 10 assists to lead host El Camino Real (12-8, 3-5) in a North Valley League game.

Birmingham 73, Sylmar 53--Greg Whiteside had 24 points and Raffi Kassabian 14 as the Braves (16-6, 9-2) built a 37-20 lead in the Mid-Valley League game.

Canoga Park 54, Poly 41--Glenn Davis scored 17 points and Demond Callahan added 14 for visiting Canoga Park in the Mid-Valley League game. Darrin Drew scored 20 for Poly (4-13, 2-8).

Van Nuys 64, Sherman Oaks CES 58--Senior Cesar Felici scored a game-high 23 points to lead Van Nuys (7-13, 4-5) in an East Valley League game. John Cannon had 17 points for Sherman Oaks.

Verdugo Hills 54, Franklin 53--Eddie Powell sank a free throw with one second to play for visiting Verdugo Hills in a Northwestern League upset. Powell finished with 26 points, 13 rebounds, five assists and four steals.

Crespi 71, St. Bernard 70--Scott Eschner scored 29 points for the Celts in a Mission League game.

Canyon 67, Hart 60--The Indians finish 10-2 in the Foothill League and the Cowboys were the only team to beat them--twice. This time Canyon (12-13, 5-7) outscored Hart, 25-14, in the fourth quarter. Greg Minor led the Cowboys with 18 points. David Sanders had 22 for Hart.

Simi Valley 70, Newbury Park 44--Ryan Briggs handed out eight assists for host Simi Valley in a Marmonte League game, surpassing Butch Hawking to become the all-time assist leader at Simi Valley with 446. Mike Arlotto led Simi Valley (21-5, 12-2) with 12 points and Craig Griffin added 11 points and nine rebounds.

Agoura 53, Royal 46--Jeff Niemann scored 15 points and Benon Ureda added 12 as Agoura (15-9, 8-6) finished tied for third in the Marmonte League.

Westlake 66, Camarillo 48--Westlake’s Brad Schwan scored 27 points and had 15 rebounds in a Marmonte League finale at Westlake. Westlake (10-14, 6-8) finished fifth, but the Warriors will petition for entry to the Southern Section playoffs.

Pasadena 68, Glendale 62--Marcus Crawford had 20 points and 26 rebounds for Pasadena in the Pacific League game. David Sofro had 19 points for Glendale.

Buena 68, Rio Mesa 63--Robbie Knight had 18 points and 10 rebounds and Lance Caldwell had 18 points to lead a come-from-behind victory for the Bulldogs, who will face San Marcos today at 11 a.m. to determine the Channel League’s fourth playoff entry.

Chaminade 54, Alemany 50--Brent Covely and Casey Cote each scored 16 points for visiting Chaminade in a Mission League game.

Moorpark 66, Nordhoff 59--Keith Linton had 23 points and 11 rebounds and Micah Hanson 20 for Moorpark. A three-way playoff today will determine Frontier League playoff seedings. Santa Paula will play Nordhoff at 9 a.m. at Santa Clara High. Moorpark will play the loser at noon.

Paraclete 78, Desert 67--William Collins scored 13 of his 25 points in the fourth period as host Desert rallied from an 11-point halftime deficit for a High Desert League victory.

Providence 80, Oakwood 75--Barry Dabbaghian scored 23 of his game-high 31 points in the first half as visiting Providence clinched a share of the Liberty League title. Hagop Yaglian added 23 points for Providence (18-4, 8-2). Dan Penhale and Steve Slome each had 16 points for Oakwood (10-7, 6-4).

Cantwell 74, St. Genevieve 73--Mark Sahara’s basket six seconds to play beat the visiting Valiants in a Camino Real League game. Sahara had 26 points. Ryan McGinnis scored 32 points for St. Genevieve.

GIRLS

Hart 68, Canyon 35--Hart (21-5, 12-0) won its third Foothill League title in the past four seasons. Yvette Williams made 10 of 13 field-goal attempts en route to 21 points for Hart.

North Hollywood 62, Grant 35--Anna Celaya and Rachel Fogelhut each scored 17 points for host North Hollywood in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game.

Kennedy 91, Reseda 23--Shaneya Harris had 29 points, 11 rebounds, five steals and five assists, and Keosha Tidwell (19 points, 10 assists, 10 steals) added a triple-double for host Kennedy (14-5, 8-0) in a North Valley League game. Yolanda Robinson (17 points, 15 rebounds), Charlene Ching (13 points, seven assists) and Kerri Garland (19 rebounds) also contributed.

Nordhoff 55, Moorpark 47--Rachel McSorley had 18 points as visiting Nordhoff (21-1, 8-0) completed a perfect Frontier League season. Avonya Linton had 16 points for Moorpark.
