SOUTHERN SECTION BOYS’ BASKETBALL DIVISION I-AA PLAYOFFS : Dana Hills Goes to the Line for Victory
Visiting Dana Hills built a 21-point lead through three quarters, then made enough free throws in the fourth to hold off Montebello Schurr, 69-62, in a first-round Division I-AA game Tuesday.
Dana Hills (14-12) advances to Friday’s second round at Simi Valley (21-5), the third-seeded team in the division.
Senior forward Justin Hinsey scored 20 points and had 13 rebounds for the Dolphins and guard Adam Lasnier added 16 points as Dana Hills opened a 54-33 lead after three quarters.
Schurr began the fourth quarter with a 16-4 run to trail, 58-49. But the Dolphins connected on nine free throws in the final 3 minutes 46 seconds to preserve the victory.
“For the first three quarters we played very well, spreading the ball out and hitting the open shot,” Dana Hills Coach Jim Wilson said. “I’m just glad we kept together in the fourth quarter. It was ugly, but we hung in there.”
