GIRLS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Wilson Secures League Title With 38-36 Victory

Share
SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Wilson High sophomore Donna Gordon and girls’ basketball Coach Doug Rightmer agree it’s an unusual arrangement. Gordon prefers to be held out for the first five minutes of each game instead of starting.

But as long as Wilson keeps on winning, neither is complaining.

On Wednesday, Gordon came off the bench to help the Mules emerge with a 38-36 victory over Franklin in a Northern Conference game at Wilson.

“Sometimes I get so pumped up I get so confused with all the different plays,” Gordon said. “I need the first five minutes to get myself in the game. I’m more relaxed so I’m ready to play.”

Gordon finished with a team-high 11 points, eight rebounds and eight steals for Wilson, which won eight of its last nine games to take the Northwest League championship. The 5-foot-6 guard also had two steals and a block in the final two minutes.
