School: Huntington Beach

Sport: Basketball

Position: Guard

Class: Senior

As swing players go, Itow plays an unorthodox role for Huntington Beach. Because the Oilers are one of the smallest teams in the Division I-A, Itow, a 5-foot-8 point guard, has been pressed into duty as a forward in the Oilers’ zone defense. Itow excelled in both her roles last week, leading Huntington Beach to two easy playoff victories. She had 20 points, 10 rebounds and eight steals in a 74-44 victory over Los Alamitos in the first round Wednesday and 29 points, 11 assists and seven rebounds in a 79-48 victory over Ontario, the first-place team from the Mt. Baldy League. “I haven’t seen another player who can shoot as well as her, both inside and out,” Huntington Beach Coach Nick Bartlett said. Unseeded Huntington Beach (25-3) will play at third-seeded Ventura Buena (20-2) Saturday in the quarterfinals.

Other top performers:

Olivia DiCamilli, whose 33 points and 12 rebounds helped Costa Mesa beat Santa Fe Springs St. Paul, 73-49, in a Division III-A playoff game. DiCamilli scored 20 points in the fourth quarter after St. Paul had cut the Mustangs’ lead to three points.

Marie Philman, a freshman who averaged 15.5 points and 16 rebounds in Edison victories over Canyon and Tustin in Division II-AA.

Laura Roundy, who scored two goals, including the game-winner, in Orange’s 3-2 victory over Trabuco Hills in Division II soccer. It was the Panthers’ first playoff victory in four seasons.

Sara Works, who had 25 points and 17 rebounds in Savanna’s 60-48 victory over Santa Fe Springs Santa Fe in a Division II-A game.
