PREP PREVIEW 1993: Girls’ Swimming : FOUNTAIN VALLEY
- Share via
Coach: Ray Bray (24th year).
1992: Sunset League champion; eighth in 4-A championship meet.
Key returners: Lauren Davis, Jr.; Patti Glosecki, Sr.; Dara Jones, Sr., diver; Alison McGookin, Sr.; Shelli Olivadoti, So.; Nicole Randall, Sr., diver; Heather Riggs, Sr.
Key newcomers: Vanessa Tjoa, Fr., freestyler, individual medley.
Outlook: Fountain Valley, seven-time defending league champion, expects an eighth but not without a struggle. Graduation hit the Barons hardest in the relays, where team captain Cathy Chandler was instrumental. But Bray is happy to be returning his nucleus of Riggs (backstroke), Glosecki (middle-distance freestyle), McGookin (butterfly), Davis (sprint freestyle) and Olivadoti (breaststroke), all of whom qualified for the 1992 section individual meet either in the championships or consolations. With these five and newcomer Tjoa, the Barons are pretty balanced, but still lack a major player in the distance freestyle. Bray expects Edison to offer major competition in league play, but has scheduled El Toro and Capistrano Valley in the preseason to ready his team.
