1992: Second in South Coast League; sixth in 4-A championship meet.

Outlook: In word association, Mission Viejo and swimming are inseparable, and although under Coach Jan Most the Diablos were shut out of a top-two finish in the section team championships for the first time since 1976, this year they should return to the top. In the last 15 years, Mission Viejo has won 13 section titles, including 11 consecutive from 1976 to 1986. Pelton has coached the boys for 17 years, but this is his first overseeing both programs. He expects to field a team strong in the individual medley and long-distance freestyle events--with Murphy, Hislop and Kuser key personnel. One area of concern is in the breaststroke, where the Diablos lack a heavy hitter. Sprinters Koerner and Gisolo provide depth.
