Brea-Olinda 75, Cerritos Gahr 39--Junior center Colleen Hudson scored 26 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, both game highs, to lead the Ladycats (28-2) to the Southern Section II-AA championship at Loyola Marymount.
Nicole Erickson, a junior guard, scored 19 points and had five assists for Brea-Olinda.
The section championship was the fifth in a row for Brea-Olinda, a section record.
“This (title) will always be very special,” Brea-Olinda Coach Mark Trakh said. “When you’re the first to do something like that, it means a lot.”
The Ladycats’ four starting juniors--Hudson, Erickson, guard Susan Rhodabarger and forward Sarah Beckley--have played together since the seventh grade. The other starter is Lee Moulin, a sophomore forward.
Gahr (21-9) was led by Rhonda Anderson, a sophomore guard who scored 14 points, and Shannon Gale, a junior forward who had nine rebounds.
