COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Dowding Pitches Rancho Santiago to a 3-2 Victory Over Cypress

Kent Dowding struck out four and scattered six hits in pitching a complete game as Rancho Santiago defeated Cypress, 3-2, in Orange Empire Conference baseball Tuesday at Rancho Santiago.

Darren Troilo had two hits, including a two-run homer in the second inning, for Rancho Santiago (15-3, 6-3).

In other Orange Empire Conference baseball games:

Fullerton 5, Golden West 3--Trailing 3-2, Steve Friedrich singled in the tying run in the seventh and teammate Brent Coon singled in the go-ahead run to give Fullerton (10-12, 3-7) a 4-3 lead. Fullerton added one run in the eighth. Golden West is 9-10, 3-5.

Riverside 5, Saddleback 3--Joey Dawley scattered six hits in going the distance for host Riverside (16-7, 6-4). Bo Haley had two doubles for Saddleback (13-7, 4-6).

In Orange Empire Conference men’s tennis:

Golden West 6, Orange Coast 3--Trent Burns won at No. 1 singles, Joe Spano won at No. 2 singles and then they teamed up for a victory at No. 1 doubles for Golden West.

Saddleback 9, Cypress 0--Saddleback swept both singles and doubles matches against Cypress (1-9, 1-6). Danny Wood led Saddleback (11-0, 8-0) winning at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-1, then joined teammate Steen Lundblad for a 6-0, 6-1, No. 2 doubles victory.

In Orange Empire Conference women’s tennis:

Saddleback 9, Cypress 0--Sophomore Makiko Suwa led host Saddleback with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles. Marci Lancaster and Irene Hernandez won at No. 2 doubles, 6-0, 6-0, for Saddleback (5-4, 4-4).
