BUSY CITY? Violent crimes were down in most major Orange County cities for 1992, state justice officials reported Monday. But Huntington Beach saw a dramatic 34% increase. “I don’t know if there is a single answer for this,” says Lt. Chuck Poe, a department spokesman. “We have more people in the city; maybe it could be connected to a change in attitudes.” . . . Cities here with a crime drop attribute it partly to better cooperation from residents and to police crackdowns on drugs and gangs.
