Valvano Enters Hospital, Condition Satisfactory
Jim Valvano, the former North Carolina State basketball coach who is suffering from cancer, has been admitted to Duke University Medical Center.
Valvano was in satisfactory condition Monday, a spokeswoman for the hospital’s cancer center said. He entered the hospital last week.
The hospital visit was not scheduled, said a publicist for ESPN, for which Valvano is a basketball commentator.
The ESPN spokesman said Valvano was expected to return home early this week and knew of no change in his condition.
Valvano has been treated at the hospital periodically since he was found to have cancer last year.
Valvano’s last on-air appearance was as a color commentator March 7 for ABC’s broadcast of the North Carolina-Duke game, three days after making an emotional speech during ESPN’s “ESPY Awards” show.
