HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Nadeau Homer Streak at 8; Kennedy Wins Pair

With home runs in two games Friday, Kennedy High outfielder Rick Nadeau extended his consecutive-game home-run streak to eight as the Golden Cougars won twice in the Las Vegas Gael tournament.

Nadeau, a senior three-year starter, homered in a 12-5 victory over Oceanside in the morning game and followed with a homer in a 7-4 win over Page, Ariz., in the afternoon.

Nadeau’s streak started March 23 with a home run against Taft. He has eight homers in all. Teammate Jeff Tagliaferri homered twice and had three hits in the victory over Page.

Tagliaferri earned the pitching victory and had three hits in the first game. David Bourne and John Toven also had three hits against Oceanside.

Kennedy is 12-2.

In other baseball games:

Mountain View 4, Sylmar 3--Right-hander David Nelson stopped Sylmar on five hits in the opening round of the Las Vegas Gael tournament.

Sylmar (9-4) rallied from a 4-0 deficit with a pair of runs in the fifth and a run in the seventh. Andy Martinez had a run-scoring single and later scored on a passed ball in the fifth. Andy Camarillo had a run-scoring single in the seventh.

Oxnard 4, Canyon 2--Robert Meek (2-2) recorded his first complete game, striking out seven, walking four and allowing three hits.

Catcher Marc Ledesma doubled and drove in two runs, including the tie-breaker in the bottom of the sixth.

SOFTBALL

Oakwood 5, Avalon 1--Senior right-hander Tracy Stern struck out 10 and Susie Seidman had two hits, leading the Gorillas (6-1, 1-0) to a Liberty League victory.

GOLF

Lompoc High Easter Invitational--Moorpark’s Yannick DiBeau shot a two-over 74 at La Purisima Golf Course to take medalist honors in the 26-team event.

DiBeau, an exchange student from Quebec, birdied five holes and won closest-to-the-pin on both par threes.

Atascadero shot a 236 to win the overall competition, which included three golfers per team.

Thousand Oaks finished second with a 241. Moorpark (246, fourth), Buena and Ventura (248, tie for fifth), Rio Mesa (253, eighth) and Simi Valley (260, ninth) also finished in the top 10.
