Oxnard’s Moore Still On at Ventura

Share

Two-time defending Street Stock champion Paul Moore of Oxnard started the 1993 season by returning to his winning ways, claiming the 20-lap Street Stock oval main event at Ventura Raceway on Friday night.

Moore roared past pole-sitter Mike Riccardi of Santa Barbara in the first turn and was pressured by another Santa Barbara driver, James Weston. However, Weston got caught up in traffic heading into the final lap and spun out, giving Moore the uncontested checkered flag. Bill Bartels of Culver City finished second and Adail Gayhart of Malibu was third.

Gary Hubert of Camarillo, who finished strongly in the Mini Stock division last season, also got off on the right track, notching an easy wire-to-wire victory in the Mini Stock 20-lap oval main. Chris Raschke and Gary Swenson, both of Ventura, were second and third.

Scott Boucher of Oak View dominated the inaugural running of the Pony Stock division, winning the heat race and the figure-eight and oval-track main events.

Joe Silva of Port Hueneme began pursuit of his second Mini Stock figure-eight championship with an easy eight-lap, main-event victory. Ventura’s Tom Stephens recorded an equally easy victory in the Street Stock division.

Bartels and Scott Niven of Agoura Hills each won a 10-lap Street Stock heat race. Bill Hainline of Ventura and Silva won Mini Stock heats.
