Thompson Signs With the Padres

First baseman Jason Thompson, a ninth-round selection by the San Diego Padres, signed with the club and will report to their class-A affiliate in Spokane, Wash., next week, Saddleback assistant coach Bob Schellenberg said Friday.

Thompson, who played at Laguna Hills High and Saddleback College, hit .370 with 20 home runs and 70 runs batted in for Arizona this season. Thompson graduated from Laguna Hills in ‘89, played at Saddleback in ‘90, and at Pepperdine in ’91.
