Garcia Moves Over to Titan Women’s Program

Rick Garcia, an assistant coach for the Cal State Fullerton men’s soccer team for two years, Thursday was named assistant coach for the new women’s program.

Garcia, 31, played soccer for the Titans from 1981 to 1984 and is director of the Titan Soccer School.

“Rick brings great expertise and familiarity with the workings of the university to the new women’s team,” said Al Mistri, who will serve as head coach of the men’s and women’s programs.

George Tuttle, an assistant coach at Sheridan (Wyo.) College for the past two years, was named a part-time men’s basketball assistant by Cal State Fullerton Coach Brad Holland. Tuttle was academic adviser, physical education instructor and sports information director at Sheridan.

CS Fullerton wrestler Michael Grubbs is a third-team selection for the GTE Academic All-America men’s at-large team. Grubbs, a senior finance major, compiled a 3.8 grade-point average and placed fifth at the NCAA championships in the 115-pound division.

Defender Bobby Reyes and midfielder Michael Kafka were released by the Salsa in anticipation of Monday’s league roster-freeze deadline.
