Capture Shows LAPD Is World-Class Force

Share

* On June 18 at about 2:20 p.m., officers of the Los Angeles Police Department chased two crime suspects to the area near Nordhoff Street and Van Nuys Boulevard. The men fled from their car and tried to enter the playground of Liggett Street Elementary School. The gates were locked and they fled to the condominiums across from the school.

Officers ordered all children held in the classrooms and established a perimeter to search for the suspects, said to be homicide suspects who had led the officers on a high-speed chase. After 15 minutes of searching and assistance from a helicopter, police captured both men.

The handling of the search is a tribute to Deputy Chief Mark Kroeker and all the men and women of the Los Angeles Police Department.

What could have been a very dangerous situation was safely handled. The Los Angeles Police Department is truly a world-class organization, and we are all safer because our officers are well-trained--although undermanned.
