Play, Sign-Ups Under Way in Shatto League

The Shatto Recreation Center summer basketball league has begun, but sign-ups continue through Saturday.

There will be a minimum of six teams and a maximum of 10 in the league, which will be split into a junior league for 11- to 15-year-olds and a senior league for youths 16 to 18.

Games are scheduled to be played on Saturdays. If each league fields more than eight teams, additional games will be played during the week. All games will be at the Recreation Center. , at Westmoreland Avenue and West 4th Street , and will consist of two, 20-minute halves with a running clock. High school rules apply.

The league, which began Saturday, runs 10 weeks.

The L.A. City Softball Championships are scheduled to begin Aug. 17.

Games will be at parks in the Pacific, Valley and Metro regions. Teams that wish to participate must have played in the regular season summer municipal softball leagues at one of the three regions.

The entrance fee is $50 per team and players should be at least 15 years old.

The duration of the tournament will depend upon the number of teams that enter.
