BASEBALL / DAILY REPORT : DODGERS : Reed Gets Back in Swing of Things

Second baseman Jody Reed, recently activated from the disabled list after missing about a month because of an injury to his left elbow, said he has had no problems with the elbow.

“It’s at a point where I don’t even feel it,” Reed said. “I did feel like I’d been out a month. You know, the timing was a little off. But that’s to be expected.”

Reed said he was mainly concerned with how his injury affected his swing, but said that hitting workouts during the All-Star break loosened up his elbow and convinced him he could immediately get back into the lineup.

Though he was injured on a kick from Andres Galarraga while making a tag at second, Reed bristled when asked if he might be thinking about his next brush with game contact.

“Did you see me back down?” Reed said. “I’m not going to play cautious. I like to tangle it up with the guys in there. That’s just the way it is. You start worrying and being cautious, that’s when you get hurt.”

Right fielder Cory Snyder got his team-leading seventh outfield assist and saved a run Friday night when he threw out Expo Sean Berry at home in the third inning after a single by Delino DeShields.

“I kind of figured he would try to poke it through the hole, so I moved up a little, and that’s where he hit it,” Snyder said. “I got the ball smooth, I didn’t bobble it.”

Berry argued the call at the plate. Was Snyder sure Mike Piazza’s tag was in time?

“I can’t see that far in there,” Snyder said, smiling. “You know, it’s too far away. But the scoreboard I can see, and the board said, ‘out.’ ”

Third baseman Tim Wallach left the game in the seventh inning because of sore ribs on his left side, caused when he was hit by fastball from Ken Hill in the fifth. Wallach was examined at the stadium and his status was unclear for today’s game.
