Chad Wright of Ventura eagled the 18th hole for the third consecutive day Thursday for a four-under-par 68 and a one-shot lead entering the final round of the Junior World Golf Championships at Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego.

Wright’s three-day total of eight-under 208 on the 6,272-yard South Course played by the boys’ 15-17 division led Pat Perez of Cardiff, who shot 69 for a seven-under 209.

Gilberto Morales of Venezuela, the division’s defending champion, and Tiger Woods of Cypress, the 1991 titlist, were tied for third at 211. Darren Angel of Northridge shot 74 and is tied for sixth, 12 shots behind Wright.

Jason Semelsberger of Newhall, a sophomore at Hart High, shot 70 in the final round of the boys’ 13-14 division and finished tied for seventh.

Scott Heyn of Sylmar finished at 226 in the boys’ 15-17 division.

Chris Lehman-Vatcher of Westlake shot a six-over-par 78 in the first round of the U.S. Women’s Open at Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel, Ind.

Lehman-Vatcher, a teaching pro at Westlake Golf Course, is 10 shots behind co-leaders Ayako Okamoto of Japan and Helen Alfredsson of Sweden, who shot 68s. Akamoto plays out of Valencia Country Club.

Track and Field

Alvaro Mejia, the City Section champion in the boys’ 3,200 meters for Birmingham High in May, will attend College of the Canyons.

Mejia has personal bests of 4 minutes 20.20 seconds in the mile and 9:23.5 in the 3,200 meters.

Jen Frank, a recent graduate of Oak Park High, won the women’s 100 meters, placed second in the 200 and anchored the United States’ 400-meter relay team to victory in the Maccabiah Games in Tel Aviv on July 10 and 11.

Richard Frank, Jen’s brother, placed seventh in the 100 (11.30) and sixth in the 200 (22.80).
