Maloney Named Baseball Coach at Agoura High
Bryan Maloney, a former assistant at Royal and Simi Valley highs, has been named baseball coach at Agoura High.
Maloney, a 1984 graduate of Westlake High, was selected from a field of 14 applicants, Agoura Athletic Director John Crow said.
Maloney, 27, last coached as an assistant to Mike Scyphers at Simi Valley in 1991 and ’92. He operates baseball instructional schools in Agoura, Granada Hills and Burbank and will serve as a walk-on coach at Agoura.
“Bryan knows the game, he can teach the game and he’s got himself organized,” Crow said. “He’s worked with some of the kids in this school. I think we have the best candidate for the job.”
Maloney replaces Bart Morefield, who coached the Chargers for three years. He inherits a team that finished 4-20 last season and last in the Marmonte League at 1-13.
“We’re starting at a low right now,” Maloney said. “But through hard work, some things can be developed and the program can get back to being successful.”
Maloney served under former Royal Coach Mike McCurdy from 1986-88. He attended Moorpark College for two years before graduating from Cal State Northridge in 1991. Maloney began his business in 1988.
At Westlake, Maloney was a second-team all-league selection as a utility player his senior year.
