Share

A 41-year-old Northridge woman was arrested on suspicion of fatally shooting her mother Wednesday night during a heated argument in the apartment the two shared, authorities said.

Teresa Renee Coleman, 68, died from at least one gunshot wound to the lower abdomen fired from a gun her daughter purchased for protection about one month ago, said Los Angeles Police Detective Tom Broad. Police arrived at the apartment complex in the 18500 block of Prairie Street about 8 p.m., Broad said.

Her daughter, Terry Storsin, is being held without bail at the Van Nuys Jail, he said.

Storsin had been drinking before the shooting occurred, but Broad would not speculate about her condition at the time of the incident.

Coleman was taken to a local hospital where she failed to respond to treatment and was pronounced dead at 8:48 p.m., Broad said.

Coleman, who suffered from diabetes, had been ill for some time and police learned that the two had engaged in heated arguments in the past, Broad said.
