Van Nuys-Sherman Oaks Thwarted
The Van Nuys-Sherman Oaks Babe Ruth all-star baseball team was held to three hits in an 8-3 loss to Hollister in the championship game of the regional tournament Saturday at Elk Grove, Calif.
Van Nuys-Sherman Oaks, which pounded out 17 hits in a 13-4 semifinal victory over Elk Grove Friday, was limited by Louie Escamilla to two singles and a double.
Trailing, 3-2, after 4 1/2 innings, Van Nuys-Sherman Oaks tied the score in the fifth when Manny Mosqueda reached second base on an error, was sacrificed to third by Eric Horvat and scored on Bill Scott’s sacrifice fly.
Hollister, 4-0 in the tournament, took command in the sixth by scoring three runs on five hits.
Chris Hebert and Tom Salazar were named to the all-tournament team for Van Nuys-Sherman Oaks.
