Two men suspected of shooting a 31-year-old shipping clerk to death in front of his home last week have been arrested in Seattle, police said Wednesday.

Joseph Bell, 28, and Anthony Shaw, 24, were arrested in Seattle on Friday on an unrelated matter when police there discovered that an arrest warrant had been issued for the pair in connection with the Aug. 23 shooting death of Hiawatha English, Santa Ana Police Sgt. Don Robertson said.

English was reportedly watching a football game on television with his 65-year-old father at their home in the 500 block of South Shelley Street when he went outside and was shot during a confrontation with two men. He died of gunshot wounds to the chest about an hour later.

Police said English had been involved with gangs in the past, and they are treating the case as a gang-related homicide.

English was one of nine children, and the family had lived in the home where he was shot for 32 years. The victim was the father of four children, all of whom live with their mother in San Clemente.

Sgt. Robertson said police are awaiting extradition proceedings so that Bell and Shaw can be returned to Orange County to face the murder charges. Police described the two men as transients.
