Rio Mesa 21, Camarillo 3--The visiting Spartans (2-0) used a ball-control offense to wear down the Scorpions, their traditional rivals. Rio Mesa took a 14-3 lead into the intermission, then ran 31 plays to Camarillo’s 12 in the second half and outgained the Scorpions, 141-19.
Joaquin Evans took a short pass from Don DiDomizio and broke several tackles on a 63-yard touchdown play to open the scoring. DiDomizio, who completed four of eight passes for 97 yards and a touchdown, scored on a one-yard run in the second quarter and added a two-point conversion run. James Jones completed Rio Mesa’s scoring with a five-yard run in the third quarter.
