SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

With its passing ground on the sideline, Pacifica High went to the ground and emerged with its first victory of the season, defeating Westminster, 25-13, Thursday night.

The visiting Mariners used the running of quarterback Jeff DePippo (117 yards), Scott Sornbutnark (104) and Damien Cook (86) to account for the entire offensive thrust. Coach Bill Craven relied on the run because receivers Ryan Johansen and Robert Malais were out with injuries. Both are expected to be ready for Pacifica’s Garden Grove League opener next week against Garden Grove.

DePippo scored on runs of 45, 38 and 17 yards to give Pacifica (1-2) a 19-0 lead with 9:50 left in the third quarter.

Damien Cook’s seven-yard touchdown run with 6:58 left gave Pacifica a 25-13 advantage.
