SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

In Aliso Niguel’s only varsity game of the season, Waylan Kruse threw for 183 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for two more as Calvary Chapel rolled to a 42-0 victory Thursday at Capistrano Valley High School.

Aliso Niguel, a first-year school playing a largely junior-varsity schedule in the Pacific Coast League, was manhandled on both sides of the ball as it was held to zero yards total offense, and allowed Calvary Chapel to gain 499 yards.

“We just tried to get the best out of it under the circumstances,” Calvary Chapel Coach Kris Van Hook said. “But it was difficult for them because they don’t have the size nor speed to play with us yet.”

And Calvary Chapel used both to its advantage. The Eagles rushed for 316 yards, led by Trevor Morris, who had 161 yards and one touchdown in 23 carries.

Aliso Niguel gave Calvary Chapel an early scare after forcing turnovers on Calvary Chapel’s first two possessions, but after the Wolverines turned the ball over, Calvary Chapel marched 45 yards on seven plays, with Kruse scoring on a one-yard run.
