Shooting Leaves 1 Dead, 2 Wounded; Gang Tie Suspected

An early-morning shooting Sunday, believed to involve gang members, left a man dead and two others wounded, police said.

The incident took place on Olive Street, north of La Palma Avenue, about 2:15 a.m. Officers said the three victims were standing on Olive Street when they were approached by several men armed with guns.

The gunmen fired several shots, hitting Teofilo Carlos, 19, and Joel Carlos, 20. The gunmen fled in cars and one of the vehicles struck 24-year-old Hector Carlos, injuring his leg.

Teofilo Carlos died of his wounds at UCI Medical Center in Orange shortly after the incident. Joel Carlos underwent surgery at the hospital and was in critical condition, police said. Hector Carlos was not in the hospital Sunday night, a spokeswoman said.

Sgt. Thomas Lahmon said he did not know if the three victims are related. No information was available on their places of residence.
