Pierce 24, Compton 3--The Pierce College defense, ranked No. 1 in the WSC, sacked Compton quarterback Lenny Washington nine times and held the visiting Tartars to six yards rushing as the Brahmas rolled to a WSC interdivision victory.
Pierce quarterback Davis Delmatoff threw two touchdown passes and ran for another score, completing 18 of 32 passes for 149 yards. Pierce played turnover-free football.
Interceptions set up both of Pierce’s first-half scores. Marcello Garcia picked off a Lenny Washington pass to give the Brahmas the ball at the Compton 25-yard line early in the second period. Three plays later, Delmatoff passed to Jabri Hodge for a nine-yard score.
Lamar Lawson intercepted a Washington pass later in the period, giving the Brahmas the ball at the Tartar 41. Six plays later, Delmatoff fired a seven-yard touchdown pass to David Doyle. Doug Sidwell’s kick put Pierce up, 14-3.
