Kadletz Chooses Huskies

St. Francis High lineman Ben Kadletz said Monday he will sign a letter of intent to play college football at Washington.

A 6-foot-4, 270-pound two-way player, Kadletz is likely to miss the remainder of the season because of a stretched medial collateral ligament in his right knee. Despite the injury, which Kadletz suffered Oct. 8 against Pasadena, Washington offered Kadletz a scholarship last week, he said.

Kadletz said he was worried the injury would discourage recruiters. “But it’s not that major of a thing,” he said. “It just needs time.”

Kadletz said he chose Washington over UCLA, which also offered a scholarship, because he wanted to play with his older brother, Ryan, a sophomore defensive back for the Huskies. Kadletz’s father, Jon, also played at Washington in the late 1960s.

Kadletz toured the Seattle campus while visiting his brother last summer and said he still plans to take an official recruiting trip to Washington.

Kadletz, the Mission League’s lineman of the year as a junior, can sign with the Huskies during the NCAA football signing period in February.
