Pitcher Randy Wolf, the City Section 4-A Division player of the year in 1993 from El Camino Real High, said Friday that he will attend Pepperdine, choosing the Waves over UCLA, USC, North Carolina and Cal State Long Beach.

Fellow pitcher Rich Igou of Notre Dame also committed Friday, saying he would attend University of San Francisco. The NCAA’s weeklong early-signing period begins Wednesday.

Wolf, a 5-foot-11, 185-pound left-hander, pitched consecutive no-hitters, including a perfect game, while leading the Conquistadores last season to their first City championship. He posted an 11-1 record with 118 strikeouts in 79 1/3 innings and had a 1.05 earned-run average.

In his final 25 innings, spanning four games, Wolf yielded only three hits, two of which did not leave the infield.

Wolf, The Times’ All-Valley pitcher of the year, said attending Pepperdine is a lifelong dream.

“I’ve wanted to go there since I was 10,” he said. “It’s hard to explain. It was just kind of a dream. I went there and the field was godly-like and the grass was perfect.”

In the regular-season finale against Taft, Wolf pitched a no-hitter with 14 strikeouts in a 3-0 victory. In his next start, he pitched a perfect game with nine strikeouts against Banning in the second round of the playoffs.

Wolf’s perfect game is believed to be the first in City playoff history.

Igou, a 6-3, 180-pound left-hander, chose San Francisco because of the environment and Coach Rich Hill, the former Cal Lutheran coach in his first year with the Dons.

“I really liked the surroundings,” Igou said. “The school wasn’t too big and the coaching is great.”

Igou is 7-3 with six saves and a 2.84 ERA in two seasons at Notre Dame. He had 51 strikeouts and walked 42 in 57 2/3 innings last season and finished 4-2 with a 2.92 ERA.

Igou chose San Francisco after taking recruiting trips to UC Santa Barbara and Pepperdine.
