OUTLOOK

Hardeman echoed the sentiments of many league coaches when he said, “The race should be wide open. There’s not one dominant team out there. I really like our chances, more so than any other year I’ve been here.” Abbott is one reason the Warriors’ coach is optimistic. The returning all-league forward averaged 14 points and five rebounds last season and wants to lead Troy to its first league title since 1986. Peterson returns after starting at guard last season and Parmenter was the team’s sixth man. Hardeman said one of the team’s strengths is its shooting, and Abbott, Sand and Parmenter should provide the firepower from the perimeter and three-point range. Balancing the outside attack, Klepper, Richardson and Widdison, standouts from the junior varsity, are three wide bodies who give the Warriors rebounding bulk and inside-scoring punch. “They look more like football players,” Hardeman said. Hampson could also make an impact. He started last season with the sophomore team, but improved so quickly that he finished as a JV starter, averaging 13 points over the final four games.
