Highlights

It was a season that clearly belonged to Sonora and guard Chris St. Clair, one of the best players in the county. St. Clair, a first-team all-county selection who is now at Cal State Fullerton, averaged 22 points and six assists to lead the Raiders to an unbeaten league season and their first league championship since 1984. St. Clair set the school’s single-game scoring record with 40 points in an 84-66 victory over La Habra, and also became the school’s all-time career scoring leader. Along with all-league selections Peter Lythgoe and Chris Campbell, St. Clair led the Raiders to the Division III-AA quarterfinals. Although St. Clair, the league’s player of the year, scored 33 points in the quarterfinals, Santa Margarita defeated Sonora, 65-60. . . . Fullerton finished second in league behind the strong play of all-league players Chad Murray, who averaged 18 points and nine rebounds, Ryan Hartshorn and Gabe Viramontes. The Indians lost to Pomona in the first round of the Division III-AA playoffs, 68-65. . . . Point guard Alex Tolentino led Buena Park to a third-place finish after many expected the Coyotes to finish last. But El Modena eliminated Buena Park in the first round of the Division II-A playoffs. . . . Sunny Hills finished tied for fourth in Coach Steve White’s final season. White resigned in June after compiling a 252-189 record in 17 seasons. . . . Troy and La Habra featured two of the league’s best juniors--Troy’s Greg Abbott and La Habra’s Andrija Kristich.
