OUTLOOK

For four years, John Koehler looked to Martha Hernandez to provide stability at point guard. Now that Hernandez has graduated, he expects Weathers or Yamazaki to fill that void. “I have to find someone who can run the offense and calm everybody down, because we’re mostly juniors,” Koehler said. “I think it’s going to be a three-team race between Fullerton, Troy and La Habra.” Weathers started the last five games of last season, averaging nine points at off-guard. The Highlanders should dominate most opponents down low, especially with first-team all-league selections Lien and Rogers returning. Koehler says Fuentes can “score from all over.” Because of lack of experience at point guard, quicker, pressing teams may give La Habra trouble. The Highlanders should at least equal last year’s second-place finish, and hopefully earn a better playoff draw then last year, when they were knocked out in the second round by the second-seeded team in Division II, San Bernardino. “We can go pretty far if we can pick up the point-guard play,” Koehler said.
