OUTLOOK

The Sentinels are looking to repeat as league champions for the first time in school history, and they enter the season as the consensus favorite among the league’s coaches. That’s not surprising, considering that with Hearvey and Henderson, Magnolia has what could be the top two players in the league. Both are being recruited by a number of Division I colleges, and Walin expects both to also be considered among the county’s best. Walin, in his 19th year as Magnolia coach, says Henderson has the athletic ability to take over any game and Hearvey adds inside scoring consistency. Henderson earned MVP honors at the Palm Springs 16-team summer tournament, which Magnolia won to highlight a 24-3 summer record. Hearvey shot 63.4% from the field as a junior. Callahan is a transfer from Escondido High and Walin expects him to provide tough physical play inside, especially defensively and on the boards. Neal and Sisomvang return to provide additional starting experience, and the 220-pound Fabian adds size off the bench. Walin likes his team’s experience, speed and quickness, but is concerned about a possible lack of depth.
