OUTLOOK
The Eagles won’t sneak up on anyone this season. With all five starters back, plus the addition of some talented newcomers, Estancia should be the league’s team to beat. “I can’t downplay our team,” said Davis, in his third year at Estancia. “We had a strong summer and should have a strong season if we stay healthy.” Even if the Eagles run into some injuries, their depth should make up for it. In Jennings, Estancia has what Davis calls one of the top three freshmen in Orange County. “She can play all five positions,” Davis said. “She’d probably start at a lot of schools in the county.” But the Eagles will rely primarily on returning first-team all-leaguers Czingula (team-high 13 point and 11-rebound average last season) and Waltz. Davis expects Waltz to average as many as 10 assists because of Estancia’s improved shooting. Davis says Drake is the team’s best defensive player and a solid shooter, while Dominguez adds three-point range and Richards athleticism. Off the bench, Sarah Noland and Meghan Noland provide size and depth, with Mooney backing up the guard positions.
