The Warriors will try to neutralize opposing teams with depth and defense. “We are a team that will try and dictate tempo with our defense,” Halagan said. “We’ll go nine or 10 deep, so we’ll try to get the game moving and wear the other team down.” Whitfield is the team’s top returning scorer, at seven points a game. The challenge for Halagan is getting five new players to define and understand their roles. “We have to assimilate a lot of talented kids from the junior varsity,” he said. “Initially, we’ll probably hit some bumps in the road.” Talbott is the most talented player from Woodbridge’s 20-2 league champion JV team. He averaged 17 points and figures to start as a swingman. Libby will start at point guard. Halagan said he thinks last year’s 6-8 league mark was not indicative of the Warriors’ talent. “We lost two double-overtime games in league and one single-overtime game. We also lost a game at Tustin at the buzzer. There’s four games where we can go to 10-4 in a heartbeat,” he said. Halagan hopes teamwork will eliminate that margin of error this season. “If we play hard, commit to defense and share the ball on offense, we can be a team that impacts the league standings.”
