OUTLOOK

This young team could either have you pulling your hair out or smiling from ear to ear, said Harris, who begins his first year with Brethren Christian. Before this assignment, he was a coach at Ocean View and Santa Margarita. “The kids are young,” he said, noting that only two players are seniors, and neither of them have played much. But Harris stressed he has a lot of talent in the guard department, and they are learning. Which means if this team can stick together and develop, it could be a power in a few years. At the moment, Harris would like to finish with a .500 record. Harris said two players stand out, Sabounchi and Harbour. Both have played a little at the junior high level, and both are very gifted athletes, he said. Of the 41 girls who came out for basketball, 25 were freshmen. “There’s a lot of frustration when you’re coaching such a young team,” Harris said. “But it’s also exciting to take a young team like this and hopefully coach them into better ballplayers.”
