HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : 2nd-Half Surge Helps La Canada Rout Chatsworth

La Canada High converted 19 of 22 free throws and upset top-seeded Chatsworth, 67-51, Thursday in a quarterfinal game of the Saugus boys’ basketball tournament.

La Canada enjoyed a 23-7 run in the second half and pulled away from the Chancellors.

Chatsworth (0-1) trailed, 31-26, but later tied it, 44-44, with 1:45 left in the third quarter. The Spartans then outscored Chatsworth, 15-4, to complete the rout.

Eddie Miller had 17 points for the Chancellors, followed by Trenell Floyd with 13 and Tariq Hill with 12.

In other boys’ basketball games:

Crescenta Valley 92, El Rancho 56--Richard O’Neill scored 41 points to lead the Falcons to a first-round victory in the Burbank-Hoover tournament at Burbank. O’Neill, a senior guard, made 14 of 20 shots from the field, including four three-pointers. Sophomore Jake Willis scored 18 points and dished out eight assists for the Falcons (1-0).

Glendale 71, San Fernando 41--The Dynamiters (3-0) upset second-seeded San Fernando (2-1) on the strength of a 41-point second half in a quarterfinal game of the Saugus tournament.

After falling behind early, San Fernando cut the lead to 30-24 at halftime. After that, it was all Glendale, paced by Henrik Bandari’s 11 points.

Montclair Prep 101, Antelope Valley Christian 25--Mountie guard Akil Anderson had 22 points, Reed Berglund 15 and Wes Hinkston 20. Montclair Prep’s press defense produced 29 steals.

Crespi 43, Lemoore 42--Brian Flahavan hit a three-point shot at the buzzer to give the Celts the victory in a first-round game of the San Luis Obispo tournament. Marc Lubaszka led the Celts with 15 points.

St. Bonaventure 115, West L.A. Baptist 21--Sean Carr scored 25 points to lead the Seraphs to a 94-point rout in the first round of the Providence tournament.

Ventura 64, South Pasadena 49--John-Ryan Kern scored 20 points and Ryan Studt added 11 to lead the Cougars (1-0) past South Pasadena in a first-round game of the Nordhoff tournament.

St. Francis 56, Marshall 54 (OT)--Tim Murphy, who had a game-high 19 points, hit five three-point shots and Braden Weber scored all 11 of his points in the second half, including eight in the fourth quarter.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Village Christian 59, La Reina 18--The Crusaders outscored the Regents, 13-0, in the first quarter and coasted to the easy victory in the first-round game of the L.A. Baptist tournament.

Clanci Lehman had 17 points and 11 rebounds for Village Christian (1-0) and Lindy James added 16.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Arcadia 4, Chaminade 1--Sophomore goalkeeper Amanda Horn made 24 saves, but could not hold off the defending Southern Section Division II champions in a nonleague match at Chaminade.
